Snow White as influencer
The tale of Snow White has been one of the most popular fairytales for over 200 years: The beautiful princess is banished by the jealous queen and takes refuge with the seven dwarfs. With Fredrik Rydmans Contemporary Dance show Snow White, a modern new interpretation of the classic celebrates its German premiere on our stage. Snow White – portrayed as Instagram icon and influencer – holds up the mirror of the digital age to us: our fight against aging, against loneliness, against the addiction to outside validation.
mirror, mirror on the wall
Snow White focuses on a modern mother-daugher-relationship. The mother tirelessly posts new selfies on her Instagram account – her „mirror“ – and touts for the likes of her followers. After all, she’s invested quite a bit to stay young and attractive: hours and hours of yoga, irrigations, some plastic surgery. Her daughter Snow White is merely a status symbol to her, which she only makes use of when its advantageous. Snow White, on the contrary, fights for the attention and love of her mother – but all that changes on the day she gets her first smart phone. Soon, Snow White has way more fans than her mother…
Brilliant choreography and an outstanding ensemble
Choreographer Fredrik Ryman has created a modern and wonderfully accessible interpretation of Show White, which finds its expression in Contemporary Dance. He works with the motifs of the original fairytale: jealousy and vanity, beauty and perception as well as „Snow Whites longing for being loved and the mother’s fear of the inevitable“. An outstanding dance ensemble puts all those highly human fears, problems and needs on stage – with brilliant choreography and masterful technique.
