BESTSELLER AS A THEATER PLAY
Twelve volumes have already been published about The School of Magical Animals. Margit Auer’s stories regularly top the bestseller lists and have so far been translated into 13 languages. The first volume is now conquering the stage and children’s hearts as a play. After its world premiere at the Junges Theater Bonn, it can be experienced here in 2022.
THE ACT
Somewhere in Germany stands the Winterstein School. A completely normal school, as it seems at first glance. But this school hides a wonderful secret! When Ida arrives at the school, she doesn’t feel at all at ease. She misses her best friend Miriam, and some of her new classmates are quite demanding. However, Ida is not the only newcomer in the class. The teacher Miss Cornfield is also new at the school. One day she invites her brother Mortimer Morrison, and suddenly everything changes: Mr. Morrison is the owner of a magical pet shop and announces that some of the children in the class will receive a magical animal. A magical animal remains faithful to its human for life and can only be heard and seen by the chosen ones. It doesn’t take long before the classroom is filled with a small zoo. And then the adventure really begins …
THE AUTHOR
Margit Auer lives with her family in Eichstätt. The journalist has worked for the Süddeutsche Zeitung and dpa, among others. When her three sons were born, she suddenly started reading a lot of children’s books – and began writing some herself. After various historical children’s thrillers, the first three volumes of her series Die Schule der magischen Tiere (The School of Magical Animals) were published by Carlsen Verlag starting in 2013.
THE YOUNG THEATER BONN
With The School of Magical Animals, we are continuing our successful collaboration with the Junges Theater Bonn JTB, with whom we have already brought plays such as “Der Grüffelo“, “Für Hund und Katz ist auch noch Platz”, “Die unendliche Geschichte” and many more to our stage. The JTB is one of the most successful children’s and youth theaters in Germany. A special feature is that in the productions most of the roles of children and young people are also embodied by actors and actresses of the appropriate age. These are carefully selected, professionally guided and continuously supervised and supported.
