1. Your theater visit
You can find the admission time under “Further details” on the respective event website. The following rules usually apply:
Main Theatre:
The foyer is usually opened one hour before the start of the performance. We open the theater auditorium approximately 30 minutes before the start of the performance.
Silbersaal/Barocksaal:
The Silbersaal opens 30 minutes before the start of the performance. For events, the Barocksaal opens 30 minutes before the start of the performance. Exhibitions open at the times stated on the website. The bar in the Barocksaal is usually open one hour before the start of performances on days when there is a performance in the main theater.
There are a number of parking garages around the theater. You can find an overview here.
If you arrive late for the performance, our staff will admit you to the auditorium during a suitable interval out of consideration for the performers and other guests. Please understand that we will initially seat you in vacant seats at the edge of the auditorium so as not to disrupt the performance. You can take your reserved seats during the interval.
Yes! You can show your Print@Home ticket on your cell phone at the theater entrance. Think of the environment and refrain from printing if possible.
The theater’s events are generally recommended for children aged 6 and above. Different age recommendations apply to children’s theater. You can also find production-specific information under “Further details” on the website for each event. If you are unsure whether a play is suitable for your child, please contact besucherservice@deutsches-theater.de.
We charge a fee of €2.50 per person for the cloakroom.
If items are available for purchase, you will find the sales stand in our foyer during the respective performance or ask our staff. If you do not have a ticket, please speak to the admission staff.
Eating and drinking in the theater hall and the Silbersaal is generally not permitted. Exceptions are made during the ball season and at selected events where catering is provided.
Yes, please contact the bar staff before the performance. Your desired drinks and food will be provided for you at the intermission on one of the foyer tables or at the balcony bars (right and left) after payment in advance. An overview of the food and drink offerings can be found here.
Silbersaal:
Drinks cannot be pre-ordered in the Silbersaal. The bar is usually open during the intermission, before and after the event.
The entrance to the Silbersaal is located at staircase III. Coming from Schwanthalerstraße, keep left before the archway. For barrier-free access to the Silver Hall, please speak to the admission staff.
Go through the entrance to the Silver Hall and then turn right before the stairs. Access to the Baroque Hall is barrier-free. When the bar is open, the Baroque Hall can also be reached through the open doors in the archway directly opposite the main entrance.
Photography, video recording, or audio recording are not permitted during the event. If this rule is violated, our staff is required to stop it by means of a light signal. Violation of this rule also constitutes a breach of copyright and disturbs other guests. You are welcome to take a souvenir photo at our photo wall in the foyer.
The best seats in the Deutsches Theater vary depending on your preferences. Those with poor eyesight or who value details tend to prefer the front rows. Those who want an overview of the action and to soak up the atmosphere in the auditorium tend to prefer the back rows. For shorter people or children, we recommend booking our ascending rows in the auditorium. The following rows in the stalls are raised compared to the rows in front of them: row 4, row 7, row 9, row 11, row 13, row 15, row 17. From row 19 onwards, in the balcony and upper circle, all rows are raised. The seats in the balcony and upper circle often offer completely new insights into a play thanks to the changed perspectives.
Please feel free to politely address guests about their behavior yourself or contact our service staff at the entrance doors.
If you are currently attending a theater performance and an incident occurs, please report it directly to the evening performance management team at the venue. You can reach them by speaking to our theater staff and asking for them. You do not need to share any information about the incident at this point. The evening performance management team will then discuss the next steps with you and inform you about further options.
Alternatively, you can also contact the equal opportunities officer at the Deutsches Theater directly. Regardless of how long ago the incident occurred, she is available to assist you at any time.

In cases of sexual harassment:
Women’s Emergency Hotline Counseling Center Munich (also for trans, inter, and non-binary individuals):
MIM – The Munich Information Center for Men
In cases of anti-LGBTQ discrimination:

We announce autograph sessions in advance on our website and on social media. If you are lucky, you may also meet the performers at the stage door. Please respect it if an artist does not have time for a chat or autographs, as the performers’ working days are often very long and exhausting.
After the premiere, the performers celebrate the success of the first performance, which also marks the end of a strenuous rehearsal period. This celebration is primarily a gift for the performers and is therefore tailored to their wishes. Often, the cast prefers to celebrate in a small circle and therefore does not invite the audience to the celebration. Sometimes, however, there are public premiere celebrations to which everyone is welcome.
The Deutsches Theater is centrally located and therefore surrounded by many good dining options. All information about dining—including refreshments during intermission at our theater—can be found here.
As a general rule, please dress in a manner that makes you feel comfortable. We appreciate it when our guests express their excitement about this special evening through their attire. On premiere nights, you will encounter many guests in evening wear.
A separate dress code may apply for ball visits. Please refer to the respective websites for further information.
We want every guest to enjoy a pleasant evening at the theater. To ensure this, it is important that mobile phones remain switched off throughout the performance. Even writing short messages or checking the time can disturb other guests due to the bright display. We also ask that you only talk during the intermissions and refrain from singing along.
We welcome your feedback at besucherservice@deutsches-theater.de.
The current cast list is usually displayed on the screens in the foyer. Information can also be found on the respective website. The theater and the production company reserve the right to change the announced cast at short notice.
2. Service & offers
Lost property is kept at our box office. You can contact them by phone at 089 55 234 450 or by email at besucherservice@deutsches-theater.de.
Yes, the theater’s rooms can be rented for events upon request. Please send your inquiry to eventplanung@deutsches-theater.de. Further information on renting the rooms can be found here.
The Deutsches Theater is a guest performance theater without a permanent ensemble. Only in exceptional cases can artists apply for a role in one of our plays via casting. We publish castings in the news section and on the respective show website. Organizers interested in presenting a cultural program for performance should contact our management at direktion@deutsches-theater.de.
Due to staff shortages, we are unfortunately unable to offer guided tours at present.
The preview is the first performance of a run. Its primary purpose is to allow the cast and crew to get used to the new circumstances. Unlike a public dress rehearsal, as offered by other theaters, it is a regular performance. However, since the lighting and sound are not yet 100% coordinated, we usually offer a 25% discount on the preview performance.
With the Show Card, you receive a 25% discount on the basic ticket price for our program in the Theater and Silbersaal for one year. Some events are excluded from this offer.
The discount can be deducted at the theater box office and all Munich Ticket advance sales outlets, as well as in the web shop and call center before completing your purchase. The discount can only be granted to the cardholder. A retrospective discount is not possible. You do not need to be in possession of a valid Show Card at the time of ticket purchase. It is sufficient if you have it with you on the day of the event. Please always have your Show Card and ID ready when entering the show.
It is also possible to purchase a Show Card as a gift for a third party, provided that their details are stored. When booking or purchasing, it is necessary to provide personal data, as this is a personalized, non-transferable discount card. The data is used solely for identification purposes and in accordance with our privacy policy. You can book here.
Yes! Every year, the Deutsches Theater also presents performances for children and young people. The plays by Junges Theater Bonn are particularly popular, often featuring children in the roles of the main characters. You can see whether any relevant plays are currently on the program here.
Yes! We offer special rates for school classes. If you are interested, please contact gruppen@deutsches-theater.de. Selected events also include school performances in the morning.
A school group can only consist of school pupils, students, trainees, or BFD volunteers who can provide appropriate proof of their status. Adults without such proof who are part of the group are considered accompanying persons. As a rule, a maximum of three accompanying persons may accompany each school group.
Please note that school groups participating in adult education or, for example, a choir from a music school are not covered by this regulation. We offer different group conditions for such groups. You can find all the relevant information here.
We are delighted to welcome Lorenz Stiftl as our new partner at the theater since the beginning of January 2025. He and his team will be taking care of the catering and the physical well-being of our guests. Enjoy fresh snacks, organic Bavarian-certified wines, spritzers, and baked goods from Stiftl Gastronomie during the intermission as well as before or after the performance. This gastronomic highlight perfectly rounds off your theater experience. In addition to the foyer bars in the main building and the Silbersaal bar, there is now also a separate bar in the Barocksaal. This is usually open one hour before the start of performances on show days and can also be visited without a theater ticket. Further information is available here.
The Deutsches Theater has partnerships with many hotels in the surrounding area. You can find all the relevant information here.
In the Facebook group “Gemeinsam ins Deutsche Theater” or at the “Musicalstammtisch München” you can often find like-minded people to go to the theater with.
3. Ticket booking
Yes, you can do this via the ticket hotline or in the online shop. Online, you can select the delivery method “Reservation for collection at the box office of the Deutsches Theater.” This delivery method is only available if you book three days in advance of the event. The tickets will then be held at the theater box office for six days and can be paid for when you pick them up. If you do not pick up the tickets within the specified period, the reservation will be canceled. There are no fees.
You will find the theater box office in the archway at Schwanthalerstraße 13 on the left. The current opening hours can be found here.
Main Theatre:
The following rows in the stalls are raised compared to the rows in front of them: Row 4, Row 7, Row 9, Row 11, Row 13, Row 15, Row 17. From Row 19 onwards, in the balcony and upper circle, all rows are arranged in ascending order.
Silbersaal/Barocksaal:
The rows in the Silbersaal and Barocksaal are not ascending.
The Deutsches Theater has seats with restricted views. However, these cannot be purchased during normal sales. They are only made available when performances are already very well booked and can then be purchased at the box office at a reduced price with a note indicating the restricted view.
For some productions, the orchestra pit is not needed and is therefore used for seating. Rows A, B, and C are therefore located in front of row 1 and are not ascending. In the web shop, they are grouped together under the price category “Up close.” Please note: Depending on the production, there may be restrictions on visibility.
For bookings made through München Ticket and our website, please contact our switchboard at 089 55 234 444 or send an email to service@muenchenticket.de. If you booked through another ticket provider, please contact them directly.
Discounts are generally non-transferable and cannot be booked retrospectively. However, we do offer some leeway if a discounted ticket is used by another person. If you wish to use a discounted ticket, the difference between the discounted price and the standard price can be paid at the box office. It is generally not possible to grant discounts retrospectively.
Please understand that tickets cannot be returned under any circumstances. Exchanges for another performance date of the same production are only possible in exceptional cases, before the performance date and subject to availability.
To obtain replacement tickets, please contact vertrieb@deutsches-theater.de or the staff at the theater box office.
No, public transportation is not included with the purchase of your ticket. Please purchase your tickets from MVG.
The German Theater gift certificates are valid for three years from the date of purchase. They can be redeemed at the theater box office and online in our web shop. To redeem them in the web shop, log in to your account and enter your gift certificate number in the “Enter gift certificate number” field in the “Gift certificate/promotional code” section.
We generally offer group tickets with a 20% discount for groups of 20 or more people. For performances from Sunday to Thursday, we also reserve ticket quotas for school classes at particularly favorable conditions. Further information on discounts can be found here.
If a seat is grayed out in the ticket system, it cannot be booked. There are various reasons for this. Either the seat has already been booked by someone else, or the seat is generally not available for sale because, for example, the special stage layout would result in a poor view. It is also possible that the seat is on sale at another ticket provider or has been blocked by the production company, for example because it is reserved for guests of honor.
The so-called comfort seats are seats with more legroom. They are available at no extra charge in all five price categories. If necessary, ask at the theater box office or call the hotline at 089 552 34 444 to find out where these seats are located.
4. Accessibility
Main Theatre:
The Deutsches Theater has barrier-free seats in rows 17 and 18 of the stalls.
The elevator in the foyer takes you to the stalls or balcony level on the right, where you can access these seats without having to climb any steps. Our wheelchair seats are located exclusively in the balcony, which also has an alternative escape route for wheelchair users. This route leads through part of the building to the outside. In an emergency, please follow the instructions of the staff so that they can help you open the emergency exits if necessary.
If you are temporarily dependent on a walking aid but can reach and leave your seats without assistance, it is also possible to take a seat on the stalls level. The walking aid can be left at the cloakroom. Even in the event of a fire, you must be able to use the escape route without assistance. All regulations are for your own safety.
Silbersaal:
Guests with limited mobility who wish to attend a performance in the Silbersaal can reach the elevator via staircase IV in the inner courtyard. Please notify our admission staff if you wish to use the elevator or use the bell at staircase IV.
Please book your seats at the theater box office or via the telephone hotline. All information on accessibility can be found here.
Our elevator goes from the foyer up to the parquet and balcony level on the right. The upper level can only be reached on foot.
The theater is equipped with an induction system in the stalls and balcony. The corresponding seats are marked on the seating plan with a gray shaded area.
5. About us
Deutsches Theater München Betriebs GmbH employs around 50 people in the departments of management, marketing, sales, finance, front office, event technology, central services, and IT. As the Deutsches Theater is a guest theater, no permanent staff are employed in the artistic department.
We look forward to receiving your application at bewerbung@deutsches-theater.de. All vacancies can be found here. As we are a guest theater, we do not offer positions or internships in the artistic field (e.g., acting, dance, directing, etc.). If you are interested, please contact acting schools or production companies.
Deutsches Theater Betriebs GmbH is a wholly owned subsidiary of the City of Munich. In addition to receiving funding from the City of Munich, Deutsches Theater München generates a large part of its operating income itself. This is achieved through ticket sales, rentals, and sponsorship.
At the Deutsches Theater, a sustainability officer is responsible for making theater operations even more environmentally friendly and sustainable. Initial measures taken to this end include reducing print advertising, climate-neutral printing of flyers, introducing waste separation, reusing press walls and parts of the stage set, and ongoing digitization.
In November 2023, Deutsches Theater Betriebs GmbH adopted a company policy on gender equality and the implementation of a value-based code of conduct for the prevention of sexual harassment and abuse of power. Please send any questions or suggestions to gleichstellung@deutsches-theater.de.
You can support us, for example, by becoming a member of the Friends of the Deutsches Theater association. The board and members see themselves as ambassadors and want to promote the uniqueness of our cultural offerings even more within the city and beyond its borders. The membership fee will help to ensure and expand the high quality of the program in the future. More information about membership—also available to companies—can be found here.
In addition, you can of course support us with every visit and by spreading the word among your friends and acquaintances!

The Deutsches Theater negotiates with the respective production company whether and to what extent complimentary tickets will be distributed. Free admission is often granted to members of the press and prominent personalities, as this helps to reach a wider audience. In addition, relatives of the performers and socially disadvantaged individuals often receive complimentary tickets.
Many musicals are performed in German and English in the theater hall. In addition, there are dance theater performances, shows, revues, concerts, cabaret, and children’s events. The Silbersaal is a versatile stage. Here you can experience world music, classical salon evenings, dance events, cabaret programs, children’s theater, concerts in an intimate setting, talks, and much more.
