Amaré
Deutsches Theater München organizes
Brazilian Jazz
A new trio in Europe is redefining the intersection between Brazilian music, the musical language of chamber music, and contemporary jazz. Amaré—the debut album by Céline Rudolph, Henrique Gomide, and João Luís Nogueira—presents a bold and poetic vision of what Brazilian jazz might sound like in 2026: intimate, intuitive, and in a constant state of flux. With no drums, the album is driven by vocals, piano, and acoustic guitar.
The Sound of South America
Brazil is the trio’s shared heartbeat—rhythmic, melodic, spiritual. Yet *Amaré* is neither a nostalgic throwback nor a stylistic experiment. Gomide plays with the crystalline touch of a classically trained pianist who is at home in the vocabularies of Hermeto Pascoal and Egberto Gismonti. Nogueira’s guitar brings both grounding and lightness to the mix, with lines that bridge Baden Powell and Ralph Towner. And Rudolph’s voice—oscillating between lyricism and improvisation, intimacy and openness—impressively demonstrates why TSF Jazz France calls her a “pearl of European vocal jazz.” Both vocally and compositionally, she uniquely blends Brazilian music, jazz, chanson, and African influences.
A Love for the Sea
The name Amaré captures this spirit: a maré (the tides) represents the flowing, ever-changing nature of music. Amar é… (to love means…) speaks of devotion, of something that touches us deeply. The sea becomes the trio’s companion on the open waters—a symbol of adventure, playfulness, depth, and universal energy. Each piece feels like a new discovery, not merely an arrangement: treated with respect, yet reborn.
