BEAUTY DESPITE WAR
Exhibition with paintings by Valentyna Plavun
Even more space for culture
With the small Barocksaal, we have another historic room next to the Silbersaal, which will also be used and opened for culture in the future. We are starting with the exhibition Beauty Despite War, in which we are showing pictures by the Ukrainian artist Valentyna Plavun.
Through the eyes of a Ukrainian woman at war
Valentyna Plavun, painter, stage and costume designer of the “Lesya Ukrainka National Academic Theatre” has, since her flight from Kiev to Munich, brought the scenery of Nymphenburg to life in her paintings in a vital way – through the eyes of a Ukrainian woman at war. The artist, a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine and a member of the National Union of Theatre Actors of Ukraine, who has worked at the Kiev National Academic Theatre since 1991, took part in joint projects between the Institute of Theatre Studies at the LMU Munich and the Lesya Ukrainka Kyiv Theatre in 2007 and 2012. On 11 March 2022, the opening of a solo exhibition was to take place in Kyiv, but the war prevented this. Valentyna Plavun’s works are in numerous museums and private collections in Ukraine and other countries.
