SOMETHING IS COMING

In December 2022, the new production of West Side Story celebrated its world premiere on our stage. And the opinion of the audience and the media afterwards was unanimous: the producers and creatives have succeeded in creating something really great. Demand for the performances up to the beginning of January was correspondingly high. That’s why we’re bringing the musical classic back for a fortnight at the beginning of 2024.

BOLD, EXPLOSIVE, GROUNDBREAKING

The air vibrates in New York’s Upper West Side: rival street gangs, passionate rhythms, a fatal enmity and, in the middle of it all, the very great love that fights to overcome all obstacles – and tragically fails. Be thrilled once again by the rousing new production of West Side Story, which takes the immortal musical classic into a new age. Leonard Bernstein’s immortal melodies in songs like “Maria”, “Somwhere” and “America” as well as the outstanding choreography by Jerome Robbins have redefined an entire genre. To this day, the musical classic is considered the unrivalled number one: bold, explosive and groundbreaking.

WORLD PREMIERE AT THE DEUTSCHES THEATER

With a thrilling new production, the international creative team around New York director Lonny Price thrilled audiences at the world premiere at the Deutsches Theater in winter 2022. A top cast, new costumes and a new stage arrangement paired with the original choreography enchanted the audience. Bernstein’s son Alexander came to the world premiere and said afterwards: “My father would love this production.“
