Welt im Silbersaal – Weltmusik
Sounds from the most diverse countries
Since the renovation of our theatre and its reopening in 2014, we have had one of the most beautiful small cultural stages in the city next to the big house in the form of the Silver Hall. In the future, the new series Welt im Silberaal (World in the Silbersaal) will offer even more and more diverse performances. World music in particular is to be given a permanent home here. In future, sounds and bands from the most diverse countries will be able to be enjoyed here. As curator, presenter and, of course, as a musician himself, we have the internationally successful artist Mulo Francel at our side for this concert series with his band Quadro Nuevo.
Flying Carpet
Quadro Nuevo meets Cairo Steps
Two renowned bands – the multiple ECHO award-winning ensemble Quadro Nuevo and Cairo Steps, an international Sufi world music ensemble – meet in an exciting mix of classical Arabic music, Tango Oriental, hypnotic grooves, jazz and improvisation. Artists from Cairo and Cologne, Baghdad and Bavaria form a daring world music troupe of thoroughbred musicians. The Flying Carpet project, however, is more than the sum of its individual parts. Meditative sound and powerful unison passages create a lift that is hard to resist. The carpet takes off. Driven between eastern and western winds, it floats through new soundscapes. It carries us away: over the ground fog of trivial everyday problems. Across the borders of cultures and ideologies. Across the trenches of seemingly insoluble conflicts.
Nouruz Ensemble
with Rita William (vocals)
On this evening, oriental music experiences a new spring. Singer Rita William and the Nouruz Ensemble look from their European exile to their hometowns Baghdad and Tehran and create contemporary, new compositions from the coexistence of cultures. Enchanting singing and the sound of the traditional Arab instruments djoze, santur, nay and duduk combine tradition with modernity and a dialogue of cultures emerges.
EVELYN HUBERS “SCHIMMER TRIO”
Evelyn Huber – harp
Gustavo Strauss – violin & violin loops
Jakob Lakner – clarinet & bass clarinet
The Schimmer Trio refreshingly brings together three dynamic exceptional musicians who have made it their mission to explore the boundaries between tango, jazz and klezmer in new ways, both chamber music and improvisational.
Minimalist in groove, this trio wanders through unheard-of landscapes that may seem thoroughly familiar to listeners and at the same time, as if in flux, bring a wide variety of musical colors to shimmer and glow.
With Evelyn Huber on harp (formerly Quadro Nuevo), Gustavo Strauß on violin (Paranormal String Quartet) and Jakob Lakner on clarinet and bass clarinet (Yxalag Klezmerband).
