Welt im Silbersaal – Salon
Musical-cultural salon evenings
Since the renovation of our theatre and its reopening in 2014, we have had one of the most beautiful small cultural stages in the city next to the big house in the form of the Silbersaal. In the future, the new series Welt im Silberaal (World in the Silver Hall) will offer even more and more diverse performances. Among other things, the Silbersaal will be the venue for a musical-cultural salon. This is based on the salon culture of the 19th century and continues it as a fresh, modern counterpart. Under the title “Schubert and…”, we will be presenting a small concert cycle in collaboration with the Süddeutsche Schubertgesellschaft, featuring artists dedicated to the work of this unique composer, each of whom will be juxtaposed with another great colleague. As part of this cooperation, the Schubert Society has kindly loaned us a grand piano, which can be used in future for the concerts in the Silbersaal.
Recital with Manuel Winckhler
Bass Manuel Winckhler interprets Schubert’s last songs, which were published by his publisher under the title “Schwanengesang” after the composer’s death in 1828 at the age of just 31. As part of the concert cycle “Schubert and…”, the singer will also present poems by Heinrich Heine set to music by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. Winckhler studied with Andreas Macco and Fenna Kügel-Seifried at the Salzburg Mozarteum and in Munich with Lars Woldt and Christian Gerhaher. On the opera stage he has thrilled audiences in Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin”, Donizetti’s “Don Pasquale” and Mozart’s “Magic Flute”, among others. In his programme in the Silbersaal, he will be accompanied on the grand piano by Stefan Laux.
Soirée at clara Schumann
Welcome to the house of Schumann! The most famous pianist of her time regularly invited representatives of music, painting and art from all over Europe to her home. The salon evening Soirée at Clara Schumann’s is modeled after these meetings of artists. The Israeli soprano Talia Or and the German-Indian pianist Maharani Chakrabarti will perform songs by the married couple Clara and Robert Schumann and their friends Pauline Viardot-Garcia and Fanny Hensel. Pieces by contemporary composer Moritz Eggert are also on the program.
Recital with Katarina Morfa
As part of the concert cycle “Schubert and…”, the mezzo-soprano Katarina Morfa dedicates herself to the “female roles and female characters” in the work of the great composer. As a counterpoint, she will perform Hugo Wolf’s Mörike Lieder this evening. The German-Cuban singer will be accompanied by Stefan Laux on the grand piano. Morfa gained her first stage experience in the children’s choir of the Cologne Opera. Later she studied singing in Berlin with Anneliese Fried, Julia Varaday and Thomas Quasthoff. After two permanent engagements at German opera houses, she now devotes herself intensively to lied singing as a freelance singer.
