A very political musical with outrageous content

This year’s Masterclass at the Theaterakademie August Everding dares to tackle a political topic and brings the musical talents of tomorrow to our Silbersaal. With a mixture of fast-paced rock music, quirky humor and plenty of exaggerated kitsch, THE TOXIC AVENGER shows that superheroes don’t always have to shine. Sometimes they’re just green and a bit slimy.

A different kind of superhero

Melvin is actually shy, a bit nerdy and pretty inconspicuous. But after an involuntary bath in highly toxic wastewater, he suddenly transforms into the monster-like superhero THE TOXIC AVENGER. His mission: to save the city from environmental destruction and the evil machinations of the corrupt mayor. However, his own mother, of all people, is very disappointed by the change in her son. And then there’s his secret love for the blind librarian Sarah, which is put to the test by his new self.

The Masterclass

For more than 10 years now, the August Everding Theater Academy’s Master’s Musical course has been presenting unique productions at the Deutsches Theater. In the Masterclass in the Silbersaal, not only do the graduates show off their skills, but innovative concepts and creative ways of thinking are also tested for the productions in the historic rooms. In this way, the musical genre has already been rediscovered with plays such as Into the Woods, Heirat’ mich ein bisschen, John & Jen, Palast des Lächelns, Der kleine Horrorladen, Baby and Elise & Paul.
