My Mother’s Life
Oskar Maria Graf’s masterpiece of the same name is not only a loving and poignant portrait of his mother, but in fact the story of all our Bavarian mothers and grandmothers. Resl Heimrath spent her life in the countryside on Lake Starnberg and lived through the reign of Ludwig II, the Industrial Revolution, World War I, and Hitler’s rise to power. For actress Angela Ascher, known from film and television, bringing this story to life for the audience is a labor of love.

Experience the chronicle of village life as an evocative interplay between Angela Ascher’s reading and pianist Maharani Chakrabarti’s performance at the piano. The program features works from that era by composers such as Bruckner, Mahler, and Wagner. You’ll also hear piano pieces by Dorothea Hofmann, which she composed after being inspired by Graf’s novel.
