Musical star Thomas Borchert performs the musical one-person-piece Novecento – Die Legende vom Ozeanpianisten (Novecento – The legend of the ocean pianist), written by Italian author Alessandro Baricco in 1994 and restaged by Martin Maria Blau. Thomas Borchert takes on the roles of all persons in the play and also enriches it with self-composed piano pieces and improvisation.
The legend of master pianist Novecento
In 1900, an abandoned baby is found on the ocean liner Virginian and the sailors give him the name of the year of his birth: Novecento. On the ship, he grows up to be the incredible ocean pianist, a living legend. He plays jazz, ragtime and folk. Despite his fame, he is never willing to leave his swimming home. After World War II, the ship is scheduled for controlled demolition. But Novecento still refuses to leave his little world and chooses to perish with it…

Thomas Borchert is one of the top stars of the German-speaking musical scene and has played many main roles including „Jean Valjean“ in Les Misérables and “Phantom“ in The Phantom of the Opera.
