The master of the Italian language

The Italian director and actor Toni Servillo has brought the most important versions of texts by Molière, Marivaux, Goldoni and Eduardo De Filippo to the stage. With Le voci di Dante (in German: Dante’s voices), he now explores Dante’s cultural world heritage, the Divine Comedy, as part of a staged reading. He draws on the original interpretation of the contemporary Italian author Giuseppe Montesano. The evening is an inner journey into an infinite story whose characters are illuminated from the present.

Old, but up-to-date

A great novel bursting with characters: that is the Divine Comedy. And according to Montesano, we carry all these characters within us. At the same time, however, we also carry their love, their hatred, their thirst for life, their feeling of being lost in the darkness as well as their desire to get out of it.
Dante had his eyes fixed on the whole world as he knew it. His dream: a unity of countries and knowledge. Even though the work is 700 years old, Montesano believes that the Divine Comedy is by no means outdated. After all, human passion is not outdated and the pursuit of freedom and justice never wanes.

Toni Servillo

Born in Afragola in 1959, Toni Servillo has set standards with his readings of great writers. He has also staged works by renowned composers in musical theater. He has received many Italian and international film awards for his work as an actor and director.

Giuseppe Montesano

The writer, literary critic and translator Giuseppe Montesano was born in Naples in 1959 and is considered an important figure among contemporary Italian authors. He has been working with Toni Servillo for over ten years.
