Hot Stuff Jazzband goes Disney
The Deutsches Theater München presents
Disney classics in jazz garb
The Hot Stuff Jazzband has made good use of the Corona break and realised the long-planned concert programme Hot Stuff goes Disney. The five musicians around Heinz Dauhrer present the well-known songs in a new arrangement with varied timbres and grooves. We are pleased to be able to present this extraordinary concert for the first time on our Silbersaal stage.
New arrangements by Eric Stevens
The concert is at the same time a tribute to Hot Stuff bassist Eric Stevens, who died in September, and who has rearranged the Disney tunes. Songs like “A Spoonfull Of Sugar” from Mary Poppins, “Witchcraft” from Roger Rabbit, “Under The Sea” from Arielle, the ballad “Beauty And The Beast” and many more come with a jazzy drive in a new guise and are given a proverbial special touch. All the more so as the band repeatedly intersperses genre classics like Fats Waller’s “Honeysuckle Rose”, “I Don’t Mean A Thing” or songs by Charly Parker. With this programme, the Hot Stuff Jazzband manages the balancing act between the highest musical level and amusing entertainment with impressive ease. And even if you think you know all the titles inside out, you will listen and be surprised again and again by the interpretations of this top-class quintet.
200 years of stage experience
The Hot Stuff Jazzband are five professionals who have already performed on stage with greats such as Udo Lindenberg, Max Greger and Hugo Strasser and have gathered more than 200 years of concert experience. Band leader Heinz Dauhrer is convincing on trumpet and flugelhorn. His solos alternate with Butch Kellem on trombone, carried by John Brunton on guitar, Gary Todd on bass and Hermann Roth on drums, who also surprise with sometimes swinging, sometimes thoughtful solos. All in all, the Hot Stuff Jazzband presents a programme that is both sophisticated and amusing, inviting you to dream nostalgically. Our historic Silbersaal provides the stylish setting for this.
