Since the musical film with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, Grease has been a long-running hit. Freaky teenage hustle and bustle mixes with fast-paced choreography, pointed dialog and soulful vocal numbers, accompanied by the furious rock’n’roll and doo-wop sound of the 50s.

From December 2024, Grease will shine in new splendor in Munich. With dazzling costumes, spectacular stage design and a magnificent, international ensemble, the new production in English promises to preserve the magic of the original while bringing a breath of fresh air to the stage.

Popular high school romance

The love story between cool Danny and shy Sandy, who unexpectedly meet again under new circumstances at Rydell High School after a vacation flirtation at the start of the school year, has touched the hearts of millions of fans for over 50 years.

After its premiere in Chicago in 1971, Grease developed into one of the most successful musicals of all time with a seven-and-a-half-year run on Broadway in New York and 3388 sold-out performances. The soundtrack to the film was number 1 in the USA for 12 weeks, remained in the top 5 of the US pop charts for 244 weeks and is still an evergreen today.
