Deutsches Theater München presents
Clear the stage for comic art
With their curiosity store Etcetera and their extensive collection of “comic art”, Helmut and Meisi Grill have achieved cult status in Munich. Now, for the first time, they are hosting an exhibition in our Barocksaal.
Satirical drawings
The Munich couple initially ran the curiosity store Etcetera with its Bavarica inventions such as “1qm Freistaat Bayern” or the “Orden Für nix und wieder nix”. At this time, Helmut Grill’s “Galerie der Zeichner” had already been founded (1975). The program was: satirical illustrators – humor and comic art. The great masters of this art genre were presented, such as Tomi Ungerer, Janosch, Gerhard Haderer and others. In the wake of these grand masters, all of whom became world-famous through many publications and books, Etcetera produced books with artists and important literary figures and later artistic porcelain products such as Janosch’s “Alternative Christmas Motifs”.
Janosch, Loriot, Tomi Ungerer and more
Etcetera was closed in 2004 and the Gallery of Illustrators ceased to exhibit in 2012. At the exhibition in the Barocksaal, you can now see the drawings and posters of many well-known artists. Among them are: Paul Flora, R. Fichtner, Gerhard Glück, Loriot, Rudi Hurzlmeier, Janosch, Papan, Hans Reiser, Puig Rosado, Jiri Sliva, Roland Topor, Tomi Ungerer, J.J. Sempe, Gerhard Haderer, Peter Gaymann, Franziska Bilek, Reinhard Michl, Dieter Klama, Horst Haitzinger, Gertraud Funke, Pepsch Gottscheber, Luis Murschetz and Reiner Zimnik.
