FEMALE
Deutsches Theater München organizes
Music made by women
“Giving birth” is undoubtedly the domain of women. Despite all adversities, strong female musicians have followed their calling and created music of individual beauty for centuries. Yet even in times of quotas and gender acrobatics, they were and are not as visible as they are present. Stefanie Boltz and her trio want to pursue their individual paths in the Silbersaal. Collage-like snapshots from the lives and times of famous female artists bring us closer to their lives, their reflections, and their longings, as well as their works.
A journey through time
Hildegard von Bingen, Alma Mahler, Nina Simone, Kate Bush, Bessie Smith, and Ma Rainey are just a few examples of women who were partly celebrated, partly forgotten, and sometimes found recognition too late. In the FEMALE program, heroines from the Middle Ages and classical music, pioneers of blues, women in jazz, and contemporary songwriters take the stage together with Stefanie Boltz.
Singer and agent
Stefanie Boltz has become an integral part of the German-speaking concert scene. For years, she explored the limits of the voice-bass duo “Le Bang Bang” with Sven Faller, and for the past 10 years she has also been in the spotlight under her own name as a leader and songwriter. She also runs a concert agency and has curated her own festival formats.
Creative collaborators
With her album Female, she releases a long-standing passion project that brings together womanhood and artistry. She is joined by the much sought-after jazz pianist Christian Wegscheider, who also lectures at the Mozarteum in Innsbruck and works as a composer. Special guest Mulo Francel has been travelling the world for almost 30 years as a saxophonist, compère and co-founder of Quadro Nuevo. In numerous collaborations with artists from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds, he has explored the boundaries between jazz, classical and world music.
