Deutsches Theater München is staging a production of the Valentin Karlstadt Theater
CLASSIC BY KARL VALENTIN
A wonderfully grotesque battle between baton, beer mug and violin bow – a major attack on the laugh muscles. The orchestra rehearsal is one of the classics in the repertoire of Karl Valentin and Liesl Karlstadt. After several sold-out guest performances, the Valentin-Karlstadt Theater returns to the Silbersaal stage.
TIMELESS COMEDY
In this hair-raising, timeless comedy, “Valentin” plays the trumpeter, violinist and drummer in turn. The rebellious “worst” musician constantly interrupts and provokes the suburban bandmaster (“Karlstadt”), driving him to despair. Nothing works, and in the best possible way. In the meantime, the orchestra practises wonderfully weirdly with unspeakable samples of lively and bizarre music.
ENTHUSIASTIC GRANDDAUGHTER
Karl Valentin’s granddaughter, Anneliese Kühn, was one of the theater’s biggest fans. She repeatedly attended performances and was thrilled: “Many people always claim that you can’t re-enact Karl Valentin, but the Valentin-Karlstadt Theater does an excellent job of bringing the two of them back to life on stage… (They) continue what my grandfather always held dear: ‘I just want people to laugh’.”
