The Orchestra Rehearsal
Deutsche Theater München presents a production by the ValentinKarlstadt Theater
Classic by Karl Valentin
A wonderfully grotesque duel between baton and fiddlestick – and an unparalleled aussault on the laughing muscles. Die Orchesterprobe (The Orchestra Rehearsal) is one of the classics by Karl Valentin and Liesl Karstadt. After several sold-out guest performances, the ValentinKarstadt Theater returns to the stage in the Silbersaal (silver hall) in 2022.
A chaotic rehearsal, an insubordinate violinist and a desperate conductor. Combine that with gloriously absurd music and you’ve got yourself a timeless comedy.
Karl Valentin’s granddaughter, Anneliese Kühn, was one of the theater’s biggest fans. She repeatedly attended performances and was thrilled: “Many people always claim that you can’t re-enact Karl Valentin, but the Valentin-Karlstadt Theater does an excellent job of bringing them back to life on stage,” said Kühn in an interview. The group would be continuing something that was always close to their grandfather’s heart: “I just want people to laugh,” Karl Valentin himself once said.
