Brian Bagnall Philosophische Karikaturen | Exhibition
Deutsches Theater München presents
The caricature of caricature
Albert Einstein, arguably the greatest physicist-philosopher in human history, was often portrayed in a humorous context. But no one has been able to capture his intellectual genius as well as Brian Bagnall. The painter, illustrator and cartoonist’s characteristic play with caricature of caricature also features Salvador Dalí with his most significant creation, the softly melting pocket watch. His works can be viewed in an exhibition in the Baroque Hall.
Satirical drawings and paintings
At the suggestion of fellow artist Yongbo Zhao, around 50 works will be exhibited in the Baroque Hall after Bagnall’s death in 2020. ‘We could have been a fantastic duo of satirical drawing and painting,’ Yongbo enthused during his visit to Bagnall Studios. He said this with a laugh and regret at the same time, because unfortunately the two never met.
In search of meaning
‘The older I get, the more meaningless many things seem to me. Or am I just stopping looking for meaning… where there seems to be none? Meaninglessness makes sense, however, because you have let go of meaning. Often, meaning lies in what makes no sense. So it makes sense not to look for meaning in meaning. It becomes nonsense, so to speak.’ Brian Bagnall
